Before you apply
What is the difference between school licensure and teacher certification?
Licensure applies to the school: it is the World Taekwondo Masters Union recognising the dojang as meeting the program's standard. Certification applies to a person: it is an individual instructor completing the teaching curriculum. A school can be licensed and still have instructors working toward certification — the vision is that every program member holds both.
What does “competency-based instruction” mean in practice?
It means a student progresses on demonstrated mastery of a skill rather than on repetition counted or time served. The program champions this over rote memorisation because it produces higher student confidence, better skill retention and greater adaptability. In the classroom it looks like breaking a technique into its smallest achievable components and reinforcing progress at each one.
What are the three pillars?
Psychology of sparring, critical thinking and identity development, and social-emotional skills. The curriculum integrates all three deliberately, so that instructors develop not only capable martial artists but resilient, thoughtful, compassionate and empathetic leaders within their communities.
What are the IDEA and CRAFT methods?
They are the two teaching methods the certification curriculum trains instructors in, both built around competency-based instruction and persistent positive feedback. The detail of each is covered in the Level 2 material rather than summarised here.
Who teaches the program?
Senior educators who combine practical, high-level sparring experience with deep theoretical knowledge. The program is deliberately built by people who have both, because a teaching methodology written only from theory does not survive contact with a live class.
How does a school begin?
Submit an application with your school, your master's rank and your teaching history. The program office reviews every application and either accredits the school or returns it with feedback. Only accredited schools can publish classes or schedule live sessions.
